Connect HubSpot to an automation and NerdyTags adds your leads to HubSpot as contacts for you. New subscribers and contact form submissions are sent automatically from the moment you connect, and you can send earlier subscribers with one click, so your sales team always has the latest leads in one place.
You'll set this up in NerdyTags Business under Automations. You'll also need access to a HubSpot account where you can create a key.
Step 1: Open the automation
In the sidebar, go to Automations, then create a new automation or open an existing one.
Under Send to apps, click Connect an integration.
On the Integrations card, click Connect HubSpot.
Want to do more with the same automation, like getting notified or posting to chat? See Automation actions: notify, email, tag and post to chat.
A Connect HubSpot dialog opens, asking you to paste a key from your HubSpot account. It lists the steps to create one, and NerdyTags checks the key works before saving it.

Keep this tab open while you create the key in HubSpot. Your key is never shown again after you connect, and it's only used to send leads to HubSpot. You can disconnect any time to stop.
Step 2: Create a key in HubSpot
The dialog walks you through three steps. Here's each one in more detail.
1. Open Service Keys
In a new tab, log in to HubSpot and go to Development > Keys > Service Keys, then click Create service key.
If your HubSpot account is new, you may see a welcome tour the first time you open Development. You can still reach Service Keys under More > Development > Keys.

Using an older HubSpot account? If you don't see Service Keys, go to Settings > Integrations > Private Apps (or Development > Legacy apps) and create a private app instead. The scopes are the same.
2. Add the scopes
Give the key a Name, for example "NerdyTags."
Under Scopes, click Add new scope.
Tick crm.objects.contacts.read and crm.objects.contacts.write.
If people who unsubscribe in NerdyTags should be opted out of your HubSpot marketing emails, also search Find a scope for communication_preferences.write. It's under the Communication preferences group. Tick it.
Click Update.

Your selected scopes are listed on the form. With the optional scope added, you'll see all three:

Click Create and confirm.
3. Copy and paste the key
Copy the key (or the private app's access token), go back to NerdyTags, paste it into the Access token field and click Connect.
Adding the scope to a key you already have
Already connected without communication_preferences.write? You can add it later, and you don't need to rotate the key. In HubSpot, open the key and click Edit. Choose + Add new scope, tick communication_preferences.write and click Update. Then click Save and confirm with Yes, save. Back in NerdyTags, click Sync now on the HubSpot card.
Step 3: Check the connection
There's nothing to pick after you connect. The HubSpot card shows Synced, along with the HubSpot account it adds contacts to and what it sends: New subscribers, Form submissions.

Send subscribers you already have
When you connect, NerdyTags sets a start date. Only people who subscribe after that are sent automatically, and the card lets you know: "Only people who subscribe after this was set up are sent. Use 'Send existing subscribers' for earlier ones."
To send earlier subscribers too, click Send existing subscribers on the card. The button is there for 90 days after setup, and it sends subscribers from the last 90 days. You'll see how many people will be sent and can confirm before anything happens. Anyone already in your HubSpot contacts is updated, not added twice.

When you click the button, a dialog shows how many people will be sent, and you can cancel or confirm:

This example is from Google Sheets. The dialog's wording matches the app you're connecting (sheet, audience, list or contacts), so for HubSpot it talks about your contacts. After you confirm, the start date line and the button disappear from the card.
Don't see the button? That means all your subscribers have already been sent, or setup was more than 90 days ago.
What gets sent to HubSpot
New subscribers are added as contacts with the lifecycle stage Lead.
Form submitters are added as contacts, or updated if they're already in HubSpot. They get the lead status New, unless they already have a lead status.
Form answers are saved as a note on the contact, so you can see the form, profile, date, email, reason and message at a glance.
Submissions without an email address are skipped.
Here's how a new contact looks in HubSpot, with the lifecycle stage set to Lead:

On the contact's Activities tab, you'll find the note NerdyTags created for each form submission:

Want a spreadsheet of your leads too? You can also send them to Google Sheets, or add subscribers to a Mailchimp audience.
Unsubscribes and deleted subscribers
When a subscriber unsubscribes or is deleted in NerdyTags, their HubSpot contact is opted out of all marketing email. The contact itself stays in HubSpot, along with its notes and history.
NerdyTags looks up the email address first, so an unsubscribe never creates a new contact.
For company connections, if someone is still subscribed on another profile that feeds the same connection, they aren't opted out.
Opt-outs need the communication_preferences.write scope. Keys without it still sync contacts, but opt-outs are skipped and no error is shown.
With that scope, Sync now also opts out anyone who's already unsubscribed in NerdyTags and exists in HubSpot. Like the rest of Sync now, this covers people from after the start date, or from the last 90 days once you've used Send existing subscribers.
Manage the connection
On the connected HubSpot card you can:
Use the Enabled switch to pause or resume sending leads.
Click Sync now to re-send recent leads right away. Sync now only re-sends people who subscribed after the start date, or from the last 90 days once you've used Send existing subscribers. It never sends your whole history.
Click the pencil next to the name to rename the connection.
Click the trash icon to disconnect HubSpot.
Check that it's working
Run test on the automation is a dry run. It doesn't send anything to HubSpot or other apps.
To confirm the connection, wait for a real lead (or subscribe or fill in a form on one of your profiles yourself), then check Recent runs on the automation and look for the new contact under Contacts in HubSpot.
